Besiktas Secures Vincenzo Italiano as New Manager
Istanbul, Turkey – Besiktas has officially confirmed the appointment of Vincenzo Italiano as their new head coach. The Italian tactician has arrived in Istanbul to finalize his agreement with the Turkish club.
Key Details of the Agreement
Reports indicate that Italiano has signed a two-year contract with Besiktas, running until June 2028. His annual salary is reported to be €6 million after tax. Italiano is expected to bring his trusted staff with him to the club.
Vincenzo Italiano’s Coaching Philosophy and Experience
Italiano, a former midfielder who played in Italy’s Serie A and Serie B, is recognized for his tactical acumen and leadership qualities. He is considered a promising manager of the next generation.
His previous coaching stints include leading Fiorentina, Bologna, and Spezia. At Fiorentina, he earned accolades for his team’s attacking style, characterized by aggressive forward pressure and a high defensive line. Italiano is known for his proactive approach to integrating and developing talented young players.
Besiktas’ Recent Performance and Squad Dynamics
Besiktas parted ways with their previous coach due to unsatisfactory results in the 2025-2026 season. The former coach had signed South Korean national team striker Oh Hyeon-gyu from Belgian club Royal Antwerp in February.
Oh Hyeon-gyu made an immediate impact in the latter half of the season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 13 league appearances. He notably scored in three consecutive matches following his transfer. However, his momentum was reportedly hampered by injuries towards the end of the season.
Last season, Besiktas finished fourth in the regular league standings, trailing Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Trabzonspor. Despite this, the club has secured qualification for the Europa League in the upcoming season.
Italiano’s coaching style is expected to align well with the desired playing approach of Oh Hyeon-gyu, suggesting a potentially dynamic and attacking future for Besiktas.
