Cellist Lee You-bien took first place on the Worldwide Isangyun Competitors, which concluded on Saturday on the Tongyeong Live performance Corridor in South Gyeongsang.
Lee carried out Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Tongyeong Pageant Orchestra, performed by Czech conductor Leos Svarovsky, to win the highest prize.
A graduate of the Korea Nationwide College of Arts, Lee additionally studied in Freiburg and Berlin, Germany.
The competitors, held from Nov. 1 to Saturday, drew 137 candidates from 23 international locations. Lee Je-ri completed second; Andrew Il-hoon Byun of Canada got here in third; and Choi A-hyeon took fourth place.
The Park Seong-Yawng Particular Prize went to Lee Je-ri, the Unesco Metropolis of Music Particular Prize was awarded to Lee You-bien and the Isang Yun Particular Prize for the efficiency of the composer’s work went to Byun.
Launched in 2003 to commemorate composer Isang Yun, the annual competitors alternates amongst cello, piano and violin, and joined the World Federation of Worldwide Music Competitions in 2006 — the primary in Korea to take action.
“The creative stage of those younger musicians from all over the world was outstanding,” stated Arto Noras, Finnish cellist and chair of this yr’s jury.
