O’Sullivan’s Milestone Homer Lifts LG to Solo First Place
Jose O’Sullivan, the foreign slugger for the LG Twins, delivered a game-winning home run, securing a crucial victory for his team and extending their winning streak to three games. This pivotal hit propelled the LG Twins to sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Clutch Performance Against Yang Hyeon-jong
The decisive moment came in the fifth inning with the score tied 1-1. O’Sullivan stepped up to the plate against KIA’s starting pitcher, Yang Hyeon-jong. On the second pitch of the at-bat, a 129.3 km/h changeup, O’Sullivan connected, sending a towering drive over the left-field wall for a go-ahead home run. This marked O’Sullivan’s second consecutive game with a home run, following his solo shot the previous day.
The powerful blast, measured at 139.1 meters with an exit velocity of 181.3 km/h, broke the tie and gave LG a 3-1 lead. Yang Hyeon-jong was visibly affected, dropping his head on the mound as O’Sullivan rounded the bases with an emphatic, leaping celebration as he crossed home plate.
Extended Lead and Secured Victory
The LG Twins further extended their lead with two additional runs in the sixth inning. In the ninth inning, closer Son Ju-yeong closed the door, allowing only one run with the bases loaded and securing the 5-3 victory.
O’Sullivan Reflects on Recent Performance and Milestone
Following the game, O’Sullivan expressed satisfaction with his recent hitting form. “My timing at the plate has been really good lately,” he stated. “There were some struggles over the past few weeks, but I think I managed to overcome that difficult period by maintaining my mental game, which has led to my current condition.”
Regarding his animated celebration after hitting the home run off Yang Hyeon-jong, O’Sullivan explained, “It was a crucial moment, and that’s why I reacted that way. The game was tied, it was a must-win situation, and I really wanted to complete the sweep. It was a home run that could give us the lead, so I think my reaction was bigger than usual.” He emphasized, “I had absolutely no intention of challenging pitcher Yang Hyeon-jong. He pitched very well, but my priority is always to contribute to my team’s victory, which led to that reaction.”
O’Sullivan also acknowledged the impact of the passionate fans in attendance. “The enthusiastic support from the fans in the first and third base boxes for both LG and KIA also seemed to have an effect,” he commented, suggesting the electrifying atmosphere fueled his emotions.
Approaching 100 Home Runs
With this latest home run, O’Sullivan is now just one shy of reaching 100 career home runs. “I want to achieve it as soon as possible,” O’Sullivan said. “Thinking about 100 home runs constantly, I want to set that record quickly. I believe that record itself is a great personal honor, and being able to challenge it is a blessing.”
He added that he is not focused on the home run title. “I’m not thinking about the home run title at all. I think about the team first, and the team’s victory is important. Individual titles are not a major concern. I want to focus on the team’s success.”
