Seoul authorities launch inspections on unauthorized election campaign offices and illegal gift distribution centers ahead of the 9th nationwide mayoral election.
Comprehensive Enforcement Operation
From May 4 through June 2, officials enforce a unified “one-stop inspection and crackdown” initiative against prohibited promotional items and violations. Public election supervisors focus on apartment complexes between May 21 and June 2, prioritizing gift-related infractions in residential buildings.
Mobilizing Resources for Targeted Checks
The city deploys 639 private investigators and district office teams for real-time, large-scale monitoring. High-density complexes like Dorobyeon Galosu, Jeonsinju, Garodungju, and Pens face intense scrutiny, with investigators collecting victim statements and operator leads to dismantle illicit operations.
Investigators include local housewives, delivery workers, shop owners, and community patrols familiar with neighborhoods. High-risk zones receive dedicated district staff for door-to-door verifications to prevent recurrence.
Mayor’s Emphasis on Safety
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon states, “Thorough oversight of candidate activities is vital, but citizen safety comes first.” He adds, “Collaborating with agencies, we aim to deliver the safest elections through proactive measures, despite numerous options for secure voting.”
