LG Twins starter Lachlan Wells delivered a masterful performance, tossing six scoreless innings against the league-leading KT Wiz hitters in the first game of a doubleheader at Suwon KT Wiz Park.
Dominant Outing Limits Damage
Wells allowed just four baserunners—two hits and two walks—while fanning seven batters. The only scoring threat came in the bottom of the first, where KT leadoff hitter Choi Won-jun reached and stole second and third. Wells escaped the jam with a strikeout, preventing any runs.
Key KT contributors, including catcher Jang Sung-woo, infielder Ham Keok-kyun, outfielder An Hyun-min, and Heo Kyung-min, all fell victim to Wells’ sharp stuff. Even KT’s powerhouse lineup featuring Kim Min-hyuk and Kim Hyun-soo proved helpless against the Australian left-hander.
Despite chances in the first and sixth innings, KT stranded runners. Notably, in the sixth, Moon Bo-kyung’s two-out double loaded the bases, but Wells struck out the side to slam the door.
Historic Scoreless Streak
This outing extended Wells’ scoreless streak to 18 innings. It began after allowing one run in the third against Lotte on the 15th (four scoreless from the fourth through seventh), followed by eight shutout frames versus Hanwha on the 22nd, and now six more against KT.
Such dominance marks the longest scoreless streak by a foreign starter in KBO history, surpassing previous benchmarks set by pitchers like Mullen.
Manager’s Praise Amid Caution
LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop pushed Wells despite the close contest, stating there were no signs of injury that warranted an early exit. The decision paid off with a gem that highlighted Wells’ command against the top-hitting KT squad.
