Lotte Department Store launches its DF1 duty-free operation at Incheon International Airport, the first new business in 10 years. Secured around three years ago, the venture targets a sales surge of approximately 6 billion won through enhanced luxury offerings.
Winning the Bid and Facility Details
Two months ago, Lotte Department Store secured the highest bid for the DF1 zone, dedicated to luxury perfumes, handbags, jewelry, and liquor. The site spans 4,094 square meters—roughly 1,240 pyeong—across 15 stores showcasing 240 brands.
Luxury segments feature Chanel, La Mer, and Dior, while liquor, traditional liquor, and food brands include Johnnie Walker, KT&G, and Jeonggwanjang.
Strategic Expansion and Renovation Plans
This move addresses past overseas entry challenges by integrating Terminal 1 and 2, plus Tapsungdong stores, into a comprehensive duty-free network. Renovations will proceed in partnership with Incheon Airport Corporation to elevate the inbound tourist experience.
Officials emphasize strengthening services for international visitors, incorporating digital customer engagement content store-wide to boost shopping appeal. A grand ‘Opening Festa’ promotion launches alongside.
Exclusive Deals for Travelers
Airport partnerships deliver perks like Philippine Airlines and hotel shuttle tie-ins. Shoppers at the 233 million won facility enjoy LDF PAY benefits up to 3 million won, plus PRE LDF PAY up to 25 million won. Navy Pier offers 10 million won purchases with 1 million won instant rebates.
Foreign travelers access WeChat Pay’s top 5% exchange fee coupons, UnionPay 30 million won buys for 3 million won deposits, and Incheon Paradise City packages up to 110 USD hotel stays.
Online and Payment Promotions
Lotte’s online platform rolls out related deals, including 20 items at up to 55% off, daily 11 p.m. flash sale coupons, and major opening events. Elpay (L.PAY) provides L.POINT rewards up to 10x on purchases, alongside KakaoPay, NaverPay, TossPay, and Payco incentives.
Yang Hee-sang, Lotte Department Store business director, stated: “Incheon Airport represents the nation’s premier hub for maximum foot traffic.” He added: “Within three years, we will reclaim market share through tight collaboration with airport operators, fostering a shopping environment that delights every international customer.”
