Emotional Memorial Marks One Week Since Actress’ Passing
At a private ceremony honoring the late Seo Hye-won, former spouse Goo Jun-yeop delivered a deeply personal tribute that moved attendees to tears. The memorial service took place at Jinbo Mountain Park in Sinbei City, where close friends and family gathered to commemorate the actress seven days after her passing.
A Father’s Heartfelt Letter
Goo shared a handwritten letter addressed to their daughter, expressing profound grief and unresolved emotions. “Hye-won, are you okay there? Are you comfortable? Are you warm? Dad is always anxious,” he wrote before describing sleepless nights filled with worry.
The emotional message continued: “When I envision you preparing meals and walking our child to kindergarten, I see tears streaming down your face in my memories. Seeing you like this breaks my heart.”
Symbolic Memorial Design
A specially designed gravestone shaped like a child’s footprint was revealed during the ceremony, symbolizing Seo’s enduring connection to her young daughter. The unique memorial was reportedly designed by Goo himself as a permanent tribute to the actress.
Complex Relationship History
The couple first met in 1998 and married in 2002 before divorcing in 2011. Despite their separation, they maintained contact following Seo’s subsequent marriage to a Chinese businessman and eventual divorce in 2021.
“This expression of grief is my final way to understand my feelings toward you,” Goo wrote in his letter. “After we meet again in the next life, let’s be happy together. I desperately hope for your eternal peace.”
Final Days in Japan
Seo had been traveling in Japan with close friends in February when she developed severe respiratory symptoms. After being hospitalized in Tokyo, the actress was transported back to Korea where she passed away on March 3rd. Medical reports indicate complications from pneumonia contributed to her sudden decline.
The memorial concluded with attendees placing white chrysanthemums at the temporary gravesite before Seo’s scheduled interment at a permanent location later this month.
