Actress Eom Ji-won staged an inspiring comeback to the set, walking unaided on both feet just two months after fracturing both ankles in separate goal celebration mishaps.
At a public broadcast event on April 16, Eom Ji-won joined agency executives to declare, “I can walk on both feet now. If a dedicated performer like me bounces back to the set post-injury, anyone can do it.”
Back-to-Back Injuries During Rehab
Following her initial ankle fracture from an overzealous goal celebration during a variety show segment on a Japan match on February 14, Eom Ji-won pressed on with rehabilitation. Despite incomplete recovery and reliance on partial support, she grew anxious about her progress.
Defying standard protocols that call for six weeks in casts after ankle surgery, she skipped full immobilization entirely. Over two months, she powered through the pain to achieve a stable two-footed stance for her return.
Fatigue as the Culprit
Eom Ji-won pinpointed fatigue as the main trigger, admitting, “This happened because of me. I pushed too hard to rejoin the set.” She candidly told her hair stylist, “Beauty demands endurance, but skipping support altogether isn’t wise.”
During the event, she showcased her gains by stomping firmly, executing chin-ups, and holding poses amid lingering challenges. Later, addressing unhealed spots, she shared, “Even without full bracing, signs of progress emerged. Predecessors assured me no cast was needed, yet two months proved insufficient—that’s why I appeared this way.” Rallying her team, she exclaimed, “Everyone else has their hurdles too—you can overcome them!”
Eom Ji-won currently features on Tving’s upcoming variety prediction program ‘Dae-ri-sum-ning’.
