President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday that Ukraine awaits additional details from the United States on upcoming peace negotiations, with expectations set for new sessions next week.
Zelenskyy’s Latest Update on Diplomatic Efforts
In his evening video address, Zelenskyy indicated that a planned Sunday gathering in the United Arab Emirates involving representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States appears unlikely to proceed. The parties engaged in discussions just a week prior.
“We maintain ongoing dialogue with the American side and anticipate concrete information from them about subsequent meetings,” Zelenskyy stated. “Ukraine stands prepared to engage in every viable format. Achieving tangible outcomes and ensuring these sessions occur remains crucial. We anticipate gatherings next week and are actively readying ourselves for them.”
Recent US-Russia Discussions
Meanwhile, US envoy Steve Witkoff headed a delegation that met with Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Florida on Saturday. Witkoff characterized the exchange as “productive and constructive.”
The United States continues to lead international initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict, which began nearly four years ago following Russia’s invasion of its neighboring country.
Key Challenges in Negotiations
Witkoff has emphasized territorial disputes as central to advancing talks. Kyiv firmly opposes Moscow’s insistence on relinquishing the entire Donbas region, encompassing territories not yet under Russian control.
Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov noted earlier this week that territorial matters represent only one aspect of the ongoing deliberations, though he refrained from detailing other sticking points.
