Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on his re-election as chairman of the State Affairs Commission, emphasizing the strong bonds between the two nations.
Official Message Released
Officials confirm Xi sent the message ahead of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s 80th anniversary event. North Korea’s Rodong Sinmun published the full text on March 27.
In the message, Xi stated, “The re-election of the chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Juche-based people’s democratic republic vividly expresses the true aspirations of party members and the people.” He added, “The overall ideological policy line represents the correct policy that guides the consensus of both peoples.”
Commitment to Bilateral Relations
Xi pledged to “thoroughly safeguard central relations, thoroughly publicize them, and develop broadcasting capabilities in harmony with the policies of the central party and government.” This underscores Beijing’s dedication to maintaining close ties with Pyongyang amid regional tensions.
North Korean National Assembly President Kim Yong-nam, aged 80, remarked on the plenary session, “This consensus opinion has blocked new national links by tying up central relations.” He affirmed, “I will personally lead central announcements alongside the chairman, ensuring overall two-nation policy relations remain uncompromised, and deliver a transparent network visible to both peoples.”
