Seoul City has introduced a repair certification system for electric vehicle (EV) chargers at business sites that are fully rented out, marking the first implementation for self-owned units. Officials confirmed the rollout on February 18.
What the Repair Certification Entails
The certification evaluates key components affecting building structures and fire safety before repairs. It ensures safe maintenance without compromising operations, allowing owners to assess and fix issues independently.
Full rentals often lead to delays in repairs, but this process releases waiting slots by verifying rented units and incorporating additional chargers. Owners locate issues in the main charger unit and proceed with certification to enable repairs.
Key Components of Certification
The system combines structural and fire safety assessments. Structural reviews confirm the load-bearing capacity on building pillars remains safe, while fire checks directly verify prevention measures. Together, they guarantee reliable charger performance.
Expected Impacts and Goals
This initiative activates dormant fully rented chargers, expands overall availability, and boosts public awareness of charging infrastructure. It targets increased usage and supports broader environmental aims.
Kim Seong-won, head of Seoul City’s Construction Policy Division, stated, “Repairing fully rented chargers exposes their usage rates and contributes to achieving ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality’ goals in the transport sector.”
