Park Hyun-soon, former senior vice president of the Korea Theater Association, has been elected as the 28th president. His four-year term runs until February 2030.
Park’s Leadership Background
Park previously served as chair of the Korea Theater Association’s Daegu branch and as a board member of the Korea Federation of Arts Organizations. He also held positions including chair of the Korea-US FTA Promotion Association.
Election at 65th General Meeting
The election took place during the association’s 65th regular general meeting on February 9. In the first ballot, four candidates competed: Oh Tae-gun, Park Hyun-soon, Park Jeong-ui, and Lee Hong-ki. No candidate secured a majority, leading to a runoff between the top two vote-getters, Park Hyun-soon and Oh Tae-gun.
Park Hyun-soon received 268 votes in the second round, compared to Oh Tae-gun’s 177 votes, securing an overwhelming victory.
Additional Honors at the Meeting
During the general meeting, organizers presented a plaque of appreciation to Kim Ki-ran, editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Korea Theater. The award recognized contributions amid limited media coverage from domestic outlets, expressing gratitude for ongoing support to the association’s national headquarters and regional branches.
Strong Attendance
The meeting drew 463 participants, including executives from the 27th board and delegates from 16 branches nationwide.
