Lee Sang-gyu, a leadership faction member of the People Power Party and chairman of the Seoul Seongbuk-gu district committee, announced that he filed the primary complaint leading to the replacement of Bae Hyun-jin as Seoul City Party chairman.
Accusations of Party Privatization
Lee asserted that Bae Hyun-jin has been transforming the Seoul City Party into a personal stronghold. In a recent Facebook post, he detailed the timeline of his actions.
The first complaint targeted an investigation into a district head’s directive issued in a Seoul City Party group chat at 11:39 p.m. on January 29, following one of Lee’s posts. He clarified this was unrelated to Bae’s performance evaluation.
The second complaint followed at 10:31 a.m. on January 30. Lee emphasized that his efforts encompass five separate complaints focused on the alleged privatization of the Seoul City Party under Bae’s influence.
Response to Party Leadership
Addressing People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon’s recent remark that the party has ignored public sentiment, Lee countered that even directives from the leadership fail to align with public opinion. He described Seoul City Hall as a source of toxicity and stated he possesses the standing to disregard such frustrations but chooses not to.
Lee dismissed claims of overreach by the leadership faction in seizing Seoul City Party executive authority, calling them baseless. He affirmed, however, that the faction approaches its duties with sincerity and aims for accountability.
Denials and Broader Conflicts
On rumors linking a potential YouTube presidential bid to prosecutorial ties, Lee rejected any such connections as entirely unfounded.
In ongoing tensions with pro-Han figures like former supreme committee member Kim Jong-hyuk and former committee member Shin Ji-ho, Lee urged legal identification and action against improper conduct. He positioned his interventions as essential rather than driven by public pressure.
Regarding Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Lee criticized his influence, stating that despite his position, it has burdened the city. He added that continued oversteps, even post-incident, would no longer be tolerated.
