South Korean skeleton athlete Jeong Seong-gi secured 10th place in his second Olympic appearance during the men’s skeleton event at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.
Strong Performance at Cortina Sliding Center
On February 14 (Korea time), Jeong competed at the Cortina Sliding Center in Italy. He posted a combined time of 3 minutes, 45.90 seconds across the first four runs, advancing to 10th place out of 24 entrants.
In the initial two runs, Jeong clocked 1:53.22 (56.57 in the first, 56.65 in the second), landing in 8th position overall.
Key Highlights from Later Runs
Jeong elevated his game in the third and fourth runs. He recorded the day’s fastest time of 56.19 seconds in the third run, securing another 8th-place finish. In the fourth run, he hit 56.49 seconds (11th), with a start record of 4.67 seconds (13th), keeping challengers at bay.
Past Successes and Training Focus
Jeong also finished 10th at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he became the first South Korean to set a track record. That run clocked in at 3:43.33, an impressive achievement.
Post-Beijing, Jeong intensified training at the 2023 World Cup circuit to boost medal prospects. He refined his technique during half-half sessions, honing the ideal weight distribution and massive lunges for better aerodynamics. This preparation paid off despite challenges like crowded fields.
Kim Ji-su’s Solid Run
Kim Ji-su, marking his first Olympics in eight years since PyeongChang 2018, finished 16th with a total time of 3:48.11.
