SK Telecom has launched a targeted direct hiring initiative for skilled irregular workers, selecting 350 construction site professionals during a special event. The company visited its SKT Tower in Seoul’s Euljiro district on May 5 to identify top talent from on-site roles.
Experience-Driven Selection Process
This program prioritizes workers with proven field experience who advance to executive positions based on their expertise rather than traditional paths. Selected hires received special awards, including the ‘SKT Junior Executive Famous Sword,’ along with premium gift hampers presented by CEO Jeong Jae-heon.
Diverse roles feature in the drive, such as ‘Play Zone’ positions rivaling e-sports and volleyball coaches, ‘Mega Collision’ for deep analytical work, ‘Calling Game’ challenges, and ‘Active Vision’ for high-stakes monitoring like crane operations. These opportunities allow recruits to collaborate directly on innovative projects.
CEO’s Direct Engagement
Addressing the new hires, CEO Jeong Jae-heon emphasized, “Grasping the true spirit of your department and embracing each day’s energy with enthusiasm marks your primary mission.” He also spent time observing support programs for talented recruits and their families, personally capturing photos to foster stronger connections.
The day prior, on May 4, CEO Jeong visited the ‘Forest Camp’ event for young employees at Everland in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. There, he engaged with over 300 long-term customers who have partnered with SKT for more than a decade.
Ongoing Commitment to Inclusive Hiring
SK Telecom initiated this direct recruitment model in 2016 to broaden talent pools beyond college graduates. By activating internal opportunities, the company creates pathways for skilled workers facing educational barriers. Looking ahead to 2024, plans include expanding selections through creative methods like photo contests for camping events, ensuring a wider range of expertise enters the fold.
