Hanwha Eagles outfielder Lee Won-seok launched his 100th career home run off KIA Tigers pitcher Shin In-kwang, showcasing a powerful resurgence in a key matchup. The blast cleared the center field fence, securing a vital hit in a competitive game.
Lee impressed with consistent contact, including a trade-worthy drive that scouts noted favorably. In the spring camp opener, he found his groove early, delivering multi-hit performances and driving in runs with authority.
Overcoming a Four-Year Slump
After enduring a prolonged downturn at KT Wiz alongside slugger Kang Baek-ho, Lee transferred to Hanwha and reignited his career. He notched 50 home runs during his KT tenure, including a milestone moment tied to his uniform number 50—inspired by Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lee explained, “My senior player mentioned it around the time I checked uniform numbers, aligning perfectly to wear No. 50. From first to third choice, I wrote down 50 every time.”
Switching to No. 37 at Hanwha, Lee expressed satisfaction: “No. 37 fits well from the start.” Teammate Dong-si echoed the sentiment.
Lee added, “Kang Baek-ho’s arrival has noticeably strengthened our lineup. It motivates me to work harder to earn a spot there. Many teammates feel the same boost.”
Recent Hot Streak Fuels Comeback
Lee joined the first team on the 7th but faced early challenges. Starting strong from the 11th, he notched multi-hits against KIA on the 11th and 12th, then exploded for four RBIs—including four hits—in a single game versus Samsung on the 14th.
On the 15th and 16th, he added home runs, and against Lotte on the 18th, he crushed a three-run homer plus a double, RBI single, and walk in three at-bats. Notably, he corrected a crucial foul into a three-run shot in the second round of the third inning.
Over eight games, Lee boasts a .444 average (12-for-27), four walks, four RBIs, and three home runs—two tied for the league lead, one an inside-the-park variety.
Manager’s High Praise
Hanwha skipper Kim Kyung-moon lauded Lee’s activation: “He has good hands as a hitter, making the game exciting. Even non-fans will tune in more, and he’ll drive higher attendance.”
Though still adapting, Lee remains focused: consistent play could secure his return to the everyday lineup. With Kang Baek-ho bolstering the order, Hanwha eyes deeper competition for central roles.
