Shohei Ohtani showcased his versatility by handling every pitch type from fastballs to curves during Los Angeles Dodgers spring training in Glendale, Arizona.
Impressive Batting Practice Session
On Thursday local time, amid a San Francisco Giants game broadcast, Ohtani dove into batting practice. After catchball and long toss with coaches, he crushed 27 pitches across two bullpen rounds. Matching up against a range of deliveries—including four-seam fastballs, two-seamers, cutters, sliders, splitters, and curves—Ohtani demonstrated command over the entire arsenal.
Focus on Upcoming Live BP
Ohtani expressed confidence in his progress. “I don’t know yet how to manage the WBC schedule, but it’s refreshing to focus now,” he stated. “Today’s bullpen felt like perfect preparation. I aim to hit live batting practice next week.”
Team and WBC Updates
Dodgers officials noted no issues with Ohtani’s plate appearances ahead of his Japan national team commitments. “Even with limited time today, he’s ready for live BP as a hitter,” one said. “Matching top performers to the national team builds strength without setbacks.”
Ohtani also met briefly with U.S. WBC staff, including Dodgers catcher Will Smith. Japan national team pitchers continue smooth spring preparations.
