Table tennis sensation Shin Yu-bin, known as the ‘Donation Angel,’ presented a 50 million won donation to the national top player training program during her award acceptance at the 2025 KTTA year-end ceremony. The event took place on December 9 at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Seoul Square in Seoul.
Third Major Donation from Rising Star
This marks Shin Yu-bin’s third significant contribution to nurturing young talent. Following her victories, she donated 20 million won after the 2022 Doha World Cup and 100 million won post-Paris Olympics in 2024. Each gesture supports junior players, reflecting her commitment to the sport’s future.
“Donations serve as my way of supporting my players—it’s like my personal refresh,” Shin Yu-bin stated. “Receiving cheers on my hand phone feels energizing. It’s my own form of motivation. To perform better and donate more, I aim to inspire better players and lasting influence.”
From Model to Medalist
Shin Yu-bin, 22 and a Daehan High School graduate, transitioned from modeling energy gels and starring in CFs like ‘Binggrae Banana You’ to elite competition. Her sincere approach—offering coffee, rackets, and rubber without fanfare—has amassed over 170 million won in player support since 2022.
National top training director Seiminseong noted, “Even labeling it ‘Shin Yu-bin’s donation performance,’ these juniors maintain full focus on development.”
Aiming for 2025 Top Seed
For the highest seeding in 2025, Shin Yu-bin trails Im Jong-hoon, Korea’s ace from Hangukgeoraeso. They compete in WTT Finals Hong Kong points. Other top selections include Seo Hye-won (women’s team coach), Daejeon Dongmuncho coach, and talents from Cheongyanggun and Hwasung Dosikongsa U-15.
Awards also went to Daejeon Dong Sanjung Cha Joon-yoon for top guidance, Choi Ji-uk (Daegwang High), Hye Ye-rim (Hwasung Dosikongsa U-15), Seongjeongcho, Se A Table Tennis Academy (U-12), and more across universities like Incheon National University and Silup Tim Samseongsaengmyeong.
Shin Yu-bin shares the stage with peers like Seo Hye-won, a three-time Olympic medalist and national team coach, emphasizing team-driven excellence. The KTTA highlighted top coaches and presented special awards for February selections, fostering ongoing collaboration.
