Donald Trump, the U.S. president, unleashed sharp criticism at pro-Iran voices within his Make America Great Again (MAGA) base during a rally, labeling them “low IQs,” “fakers,” and “nut jobs.” He accused them of betraying core supporters while pushing dangerous policies.
Rally Remarks Target Key Figures
Trump spoke at a rally in Truxtown, Wisconsin, on April 9, directly addressing speeches from Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones. These individuals backed his campaign but opposed military action against Iran, calling his stance warmongering.
Tucker Carlson described Trump’s Iran policy reveal as that of a “warmonger.” Candace Owens and Alex Jones echoed concerns over hawkish rhetoric, including a supposed 25th missile launch provocation.
Trump dismissed them, stating, “These people came along with us but now betray us.” He added, “They are dangerous, wanting Iran to get nuclear weapons.” Emphasizing a shared flaw, he said, “They all have one thing in common: low IQs.”
He further remarked, “They are stupid people. I ignore them like my ex-wife and other people too.” Trump continued, “They came from the left, had programs, but no one cares. Those threatening the public with crazy talk are nut jobs and troublemakers.”
Personal Jabs at Critics
Addressing Carlson directly, Trump noted, “Couldn’t even finish college and got fired from Fox News twice. Only good people and ideas make things happen.”
On Owens, he said, “A French youth minister called her a crazy person. She’s even crazier than French youth.”
Trump reminded Kelly of a 2015 debate incident where she posed a confrontational question. To Jones, he stated, “Post-Sandy Hook, he said crazy things with no talent. He’s just one person who speaks nonsense.”
Trump concluded, “They are all fakers. CNN and fake news media use them to bolster their narrative.” He asserted, “They pretend not to be MAGA supporters, trashing people. Real MAGA blocks Iran’s nuclear threat on purpose.”
Context of MAGA Divide
The rift emerged after Iran’s presidential election on February 28. Hawkish MAGA elements advocate preemptive strikes, arguing Iran avoids opening to the world. Trump’s remarks aim to rally pro-strike supporters and marginalize dissenters within the base.
