Tae Jin-ah, the renowned trot singer, will not perform at the 3.1 Festival commemoration concert scheduled for March 2 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. His agency firmly denied the circulating rumors, emphasizing that claims of his participation are entirely untrue.
Agency Issues Strong Denial
In a statement released on February 22, the agency clarified that Tae Jin-ah has no plans to appear at the event. “The assertion that he agreed to perform at this event is completely false,” the agency stated. They stressed that Tae Jin-ah focuses on preparing major projects rather than unconfirmed appearances.
Rumors Stem from YouTube Channel and Posters
The speculation originated from a YouTube channel called Jeonhangil News, which promoted the concert featuring Tae Jin-ah alongside artists like Jo Jang-hyuk and Yoon Si-nae. Event posters displayed his image, fueling the buzz. The channel also hosted a live stream announcing the 3.1 Festival commemoration concert, inviting patriotic attendees.
Although Tae Jin-ah has performed at KINTEX previously, organizers confirmed they inquired directly with him and removed his details from materials afterward.
Response to Growing Controversy
Addressing the backlash, the agency revealed that an event organizer was overheard planning to feature Tae Jin-ah despite the denial, citing a tight schedule and an old cover track. “This is not a legitimate event,” the agency responded, vowing to pursue clarification through public notices and potential legal action.
They reiterated: “Tae Jin-ah has never turned down proper events, but there is no intention to participate in unofficial ones.” The agency accused the YouTube channel of misleading viewers by insisting on his involvement even after corrections.
YouTube Channel Defends Promotion
The Jeonhangil News editor updated the video title following the agency’s statement but maintained that the event is a full-scale concert. “This is a one-hour performance by top trot artists to commemorate the 3.1 Movement, fostering national pride,” the editor claimed. They highlighted collaborations and urged attendance, dismissing concerns over approvals.
However, the agency countered that such promotions distort facts and urged restraint, noting Tae Jin-ah’s commitment to verified, high-quality engagements.
Current Status and Public Reaction
Tae Jin-ah’s image has been removed from event posters. Society members echoed that he avoids improper events, receiving malicious comments urging full participation. The agency plans to issue a precise correction post via all channels, prioritizing accurate public communication.
