The Mask national team’s flagship production, Sora Star Story, enters its landmark 15th consecutive year, captivating audiences with innovative mask theater performances.
Upcoming Shows in Seoul and Beyond
Creation group Geogi Gamyeon stages Sora Star Story from April 21 to May 3 at Seoul’s Hyehwa Demeter Dream theater. An additional performance takes place on April 18 at the Gyeongbuk Yeongdeok Pre-Military Cultural Festival’s flagship event.
A Tradition of Stardom and Debuts
Launched after the 2011 Choyeon production, this beloved show has drawn crowds across generations in grand stadium settings. The compact ensemble maintains a strong track record of featuring high-profile talents, including actors Kang Hwan-na, Lee Do-hyun, Park Jung-won, Kim Ki-taek, No Jae-won, and Baek Woo.
These appearances have boosted its fame, often serving as pivotal debut platforms for emerging performers in military service or professional careers. During shows, half-masks animate to immerse players in the atmosphere, evolving into dynamic, water-infused caricatures for heightened drama.
Mask designer Lee Soo-eun explains, “This season’s masks amplify each character’s unique traits, delivering profound emotions and messages within straightforward narratives.”
2026 Lineup and International Acclaim
The 2026 edition spotlights debuts by Song Young-hoon, Hong Sang-pyo, Choi Jung-hun, Lee Kyung-eun, Choi Kyung-chul, Kim Jae-min, Um Hye-rin, Kim Tae-kyun, and Lee So-ri.
Sora Star Story earned global praise following its 2012 premiere at Germany’s Folkwang Physical Theatre Festival. Geogi Gamyeon further elevated the Mask national team’s prestige with major awards and sold-out runs at the 2025 Geochang International Festival.
