SEOUL — Nationwide Safety Adviser Wi Sung-lac stated Thursday that Seoul would search to construct a nuclear-powered submarine domestically.
“We plan to push a plan to construct it in South Korea,” Wi stated throughout a parliamentary session.
Trump wrote on his social networking account final week that he had given Seoul approval to construct a nuclear-powered submarine, including it could be constructed on the Philadelphia shipyards in Pennsylvania.
Wi stated it could be “unrealistic” to make facility investments within the Philadelphia shipyard for submarines or to ask Common Dynamics, a U.S. firm, to construct one for South Korea.
He added that the federal government would search to safe a low-cast, cost-effective nuclear-powered submarine that matches South Korea’s wants.
