Veteran Pitcher Opts for Stability with Current Team
LG Twins closer Park Hae-min has revealed he turned down significantly more lucrative offers exceeding 10 billion won ($7.4M) to remain with his current team through a four-year contract extension worth up to 6.5 billion won ($4.8M). The decision comes as the right-hander prepares for spring training with the Twins in Arizona.
Prioritizing Team Culture
“Several personal considerations guided my choice,” Park stated. “I focused on making a swift decision to ensure proper physical preparation and uninterrupted training. While my schedule was packed after the Korean Series with national team commitments and free agency negotiations, I felt stability with LG provided greater long-term value.”
The 34-year-old reliever emphasized his confidence in the team’s direction: “Our training staff maintains excellent conditioning programs, and our experienced players provide strong leadership. Younger players are developing well under this system.”
Team Dynamics and Development
Park highlighted differences between representing South Korea in international competitions and working with his professional club: “National teams feature established stars with set routines, requiring minimal management. With LG, we actively mentor developing players while maintaining high performance standards. This balance creates a distinct team identity.”
Championship Experience and Growth
Reflecting on back-to-back Korean Series appearances, Park noted: “While our talent level remains strong, players’ mental resilience has significantly improved since 2023. The consecutive championship experiences have forged greater team cohesion that should carry into the 2025 season.”
Personal Goals and Legacy
The closer outlined his individual objectives: “Maintaining consistent appearances remains crucial. Higher pitch counts naturally create more scoring opportunities, so I’m concentrating on durable performance.”
Park also discussed his career motivation: “My passion grew watching former players like Shin Young-soo. Now as a veteran, I embrace mentoring younger teammates – helping them understand the game’s nuances until they establish themselves.”
The pitcher concluded with team aspirations: “Our entire organization – players, front office, and coaching staff – remains focused on championship contention. We’re all committed to becoming protagonists in this season’s story.”
