President Lee Jae-myung has named four deputy special prosecutors during the second special prosecution plenary session. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jeong confirmed the appointments, highlighting a key step in ongoing investigations.
Newly Appointed Prosecutors
The selected individuals include Kwon Young-bin, Kim Jeong-min, Kim Ji-mi, and Jin Eul-jong. These prosecutors join the team to tackle cases left after the three major special prosecutions involving internal rebellion, Kim Keon-hee, and the line-of-duty death pardon.
Selection Process
Authorities finalized the choices through an inter-agency cooperation meeting. On the 18th, officials notified President Lee Jae-myung of the decisions. In total, five deputy special prosecutors now serve on the team, with one more appointment pending soon, presidential sources indicate.
Focus on Gas Power Plant Bribery
With these four appointments in place, the special investigation team prepares to establish offices quickly and begin full-scale inquiries. The primary target centers on alleged bribery linked to gas power plant construction in the president’s hometown, sources confirm.
Investigation Timeline and Resources
The second special prosecution allocates 90 investigators initially. Plans allow for two 30-day extensions following the first 30-day phase. Including a 20-day preparation period, the probe could extend up to 170 days maximum.
