Yakult Swallows pitcher Kwak Bin delivered a career-high 155 km/h fastball during a dominant outing in a World Baseball Classic exhibition game against Team USA.
Strong Performance in Key Tune-Up
The Korean national team secured a 7-4 victory over the USA in a seven-inning practice match at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Kwak Bin started on the mound, working two innings while allowing one earned run and fanning three batters on just 24 pitches.
Of those pitches, 13 were fastballs and six sliders, with his top fastball velocity reaching 155 km/h. His pitches featured notable sink, keeping hitters off balance.
Strikeout Highlights
In the first inning, Kwak Bin battled the leadoff hitter to a full count before unleashing a 153 km/h high fastball for a swinging strikeout. He also elevated his velocity against Peraza in a crucial matchup.
Reaching a full count, he jammed a slider into the corner for his third strikeout. Despite the pitch count rising, he efficiently dispatched the side.
The second inning passed without incident. He issued a leadoff walk to Hajuseok but escaped unscathed, with his fastball topping 150 km/h routinely while hitters struggled for solid contact.
Ace Potential Shines
Kwak Bin, originally from the KBO’s Kiwoom Heroes, has emerged as a key starter for Yakult Swallows. He posted a 1.67 ERA over seven games last July, earning monthly MVP honors, and a 1.48 ERA in five starts in May 2024.
Observers highlight his command and velocity as reasons he ranks among top starters. If he maintains consistency, he could anchor the national team rotation on the international stage.
His precise pitching, including unflappable fastballs even on full counts, underscores his ace caliber.
