South Korean telecom giant KT has introduced the world’s first blueprint for a 6G mobile communication network, showcasing an AI-powered vision during a private session at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona on February 2 local time.
AI-Centric 6G Vision
The new 6G framework centers on AI transformation (AX), creating a super-connected, hyper-perceptive, and intelligent AI network. This approach moves beyond mere high-speed data transmission. Instead, AI autonomously manages operations and delivers ultra-personalized services across society through a flexible, integrated infrastructure.
The network simultaneously handles connection data, perception signals, and intelligence inputs whin s channels, marking a significant evolution in telecom capabilies.
Core Pillars: AI-for-Network and Network-for-AI
KT’s 6G design integrates two foundational elements: ‘AI-for-Network,’ where AI intelligently operates the network, and ‘Network-for-AI,’ which supplies high-qualy perception and signals directly to AI services via dedicated channels.
Key research areas include ubiquous connectivy, hyper-reliabily, quantum-safe encryption, AI-native archecture, autonomous operations, and semantic communication, all structurally combined for optimal performance.
Advancing Ubiquous 3D Coverage
To achieve seamless connectivy in the 6G era, KT advances three-dimensional coverage encompassing ground, sea, and air networks. This eliminates dead zones in urban areas, disaster zones, and indoors, using non-terrestrial networks (NTN) integrated wh terrestrial systems.
The collaborative infrastructure supports real-time services in densely populated regions and expands 6G foundations through super-cell technologies focused on personal data. Emerging mobilies like flying cars, urban air mobily (UAM), banking, and cy helicopters will rely on this 3D coverage as an essential feature.
Ensuring Hyper-Reliabily for AI Services
As AI services expand into full ecosystems, KT addresses reliabily concerns wh innovative solutions. The framework maintains service continuy even during outages or in data-scarce environments like remote vans, leveraging multi-modal data centers.
Technologies such as network slicing for service-specific safeguards, photonics networks, and end-to-end hyper-reliabily infrastructure minimize delays across entire conversation chains, ensuring minimal end-to-end latency.
Quantum-Safe Secury Measures
KT bolsters 6G secury by integrating proprietary quantum-safe technologies, safeguarding networks against future quantum computing threats. Homomorphic encryption for secure key distribution, AI-driven threat detection, and unified secury across all network layers form the backbone of this protection.
KT Network Research Center Director Jeon Moo-moon stated, “KT’s 6G represents an intelligent infrastructure where networks and AI collaborate seamlessly.” He added, “While 5G enabled high-speed business services and scaled commercialization, 6G delivers deeply personalized experiences, multimodal insights for precise user portras, and fosters innovative job creation through novel scenarios.”
