The presidential office has named first-term Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Jeong Eulho as its new political affairs secretary. Jeong, a proportional representative, will begin his duties on March 4. His departure from the National Assembly opens his seat to former National Intelligence Service Deputy Director Kim Jun-hwan, the next in line on the proportional list.
Jeong Eulho’s Party Ties and Role
Jeong brings extensive experience from years supporting the Democratic Party. Supporter networks praise his efforts to strengthen coordination between party leadership and the presidential office. During the recent presidential election, Jeong worked closely with Kim Hye-kyung, spouse of President Lee Jae-myung, serving as secretary-general on her campaign team.
Jeong shares strong bonds with prominent party figures from Chung-Ang University, including lawmakers Min Jin-seok and Kim Young-jin, along with spokesperson Kim Nam-guk. This group forms the influential ‘Chung-Ang University line’ within central party operations.
Kim Jun-hwan Steps In
Kim Jun-hwan assumes Jeong’s parliamentary position. A recognized national security expert, Kim secured the 18th proportional slot from the Democratic Union during the 22nd general election.
His career includes leading the NIS Information Education Academy and the Incheon branch. Under the Moon Jae-in administration, Kim advanced to second deputy director. Kim’s younger brother, Kim Sang-hwan, holds a directorial role in a judicial office.
