Authorities in Incheon have detained a man in his 20s suspected of robbing victims who lost money in cryptocurrency transactions. The suspect allegedly used threats to steal cash during lures to a motel.
Details of the Motel Robbery
Investigation reveals the primary victim, a man in his 20s identified as B, fell victim after suffering heavy losses in coin deals totaling 40 million won. Around 5:15 p.m. on March 19, the suspect, referred to as A, enticed B to a motel in Incheon’s Michuhol-gu under false pretenses. There, A brandished a knife, issued threats, and fled with the money.
B promptly reported the incident to police, stating, “They threatened me with a knife and took 40 million won.” Officers traced A within three hours, apprehending him in Sejong City at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Additional Suspicions and Broader Probe
Further inquiries confirm A also robbed another man in his 20s in the Gangdo area. Confiscated items during the arrest included a knife consistent with victim descriptions. Case notes indicate a cryptocurrency deal preceded the robbery, with A and two accomplices targeting distressed traders.
Police confirm two other suspects remain at large and are actively pursuing them. A source close to the investigation notes, “The victims remain in shock. Efforts continue to identify A as the ringleader and recover the stolen funds.”
