Three-term lawmaker Im I-jae has secured the nomination for Gyeongbuk governor. During a press conference at the National Assembly on the 8th, he emphasized the need to revitalize the region under the current administration’s policies.
Call for Leadership in Regional Recovery
Im I-jae urged channeling efforts into reviving Gyeongbuk, stating, “We must align with President Yoon’s correct direction and provide leadership that addresses real challenges.” He positioned himself as “a dedicated full-time politician shaped by public cooperation,” committed to hands-on governance.
Job Creation and Economic Reforms
Highlighting economic pressures, Im noted that shifts in local small businesses and corporate structures threaten 250,000 jobs in Gyeongbuk. He called for proactive measures to secure employment and foster new opportunities. “The ruling party’s initiatives have shown little impact, and this must be addressed clearly in Gyeongbuk,” he added.
Key pledges include accelerating the long-delayed TK new airport project, resolving regional infrastructure backlogs, developing a Gyeongbuk-integrated AI system, and establishing a national advanced industry belt. “These steps will infuse Gyeongbuk with renewed vitality,” Im declared.
Personal Experience as a Strength
Following the briefing, Im met with reporters, sharing his roots. “Even at Nodong-dong Market, I served as an original third-term National Assembly member and connected with the smallest business owners.” He expressed confidence that his deep experience and affection for the region will drive his candidacy for governor.
