Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, recently expelled from the party, launches a nationwide tour on the 25th starting in Daegu to reconnect with conservative voters.
Focus on Conservative Sentiment in Daegu
Han plans to visit Daegu’s bustling Seomun Market on the 25th, marking the kickoff of his tour aimed at gauging and bolstering conservative support. This move follows his recent speech where he outlined intentions to engage directly with regional communities.
Call to Restore Nation and Rebuild Base
Amid a high-profile first-trial life sentence for a ringleader in an alleged insurrection linked to former President Yoon Suk-yeol, Han delivered a rallying message: “Let’s restore the nation together and rebuild conservatism.”
The tour represents a ‘public sentiment roadshow,’ where Han meets local leaders and voters nationwide. It is the first such effort in roughly four months, succeeding visits to Gyeongnam in September and southern Gyeonggi in October last year.
Emphasis on Active Outreach
Han stressed the importance of these initiatives in a recent Hanket post: “We must actively hold public sentiment roadshows!”
Response to Expulsion and Path Forward
After the party confirmed his expulsion on January 29th, Han held a press conference at the National Assembly. He addressed supporters, stating, “Fellow party members and citizens, we are the true owners of this party and conservatism.”
He encouraged resilience: “Don’t get overly discouraged; charge ahead with hope. Victory will come.”
Earlier Message at Seoul Event
On January 8th, at a talk concert in Seoul’s Jamsil Indoor Stadium, Han spoke to attendees who had offered hope during tough times: “I endured similarly in my position, bolstered by hope from people like you. Those who provided that hope must cling to it.”
