A private scuba diver, husband of actress Ha Jae-suk, located a 70-year-old fishing boat captain missing after a vessel capsized off the coast of Sokcho, Gangwon Province.
Details of the Capsizing Incident
The accident occurred on April 7 at around 4:30 a.m. when the captain’s boat collided with another vessel, leading to it overturning. The captain vanished during the chaos, prompting an extensive search operation.
Rescue efforts intensified amid challenging conditions, including a large fire in Sokcho that caused traffic disruptions up to 1 km away. Divers scoured waters approximately 2 meters deep near Daepo Port.
The Critical Discovery
On April 8 at 2:14 p.m., the diver spotted the captain in cardiac arrest at the site. Medical teams rushed him to a hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
Ha Jae-suk shared her relief and sorrow on Instagram the following day, stating, “The captain, missing like a full bone broth garden, was found by my husband yesterday and brought out safely.” She added, “I hope no more such tragedies occur,” and urged, “Rest comfortably in a warm place, Captain.” She also thanked, “All the residents of the Sokcho maritime police district and Haegyeong Yeoreo divisions for their hard work.”
