Veteran Public Servant Takes Leadership Role at Social Welfare Organization
Yoon Yeo-jun, former Minister of Environment, has been elected as the 12th chairman of the Sarang Volunteer Association for Social Welfare. The appointment was confirmed unanimously during the organization’s second emergency board meeting held this week.
The association announced Yoon’s term will begin on May 5th and continue for three years. Officials stated the decision reflects Yoon’s extensive public service experience and commitment to social welfare causes.
Distinguished Public Service Career
The newly appointed chairman brings decades of government experience to the role, having graduated from Dankook University’s Political Science program before beginning his career as a journalist with Dong-A Ilbo and Kyunghyang Shinmun.
Yoon’s distinguished public service includes positions as:
- Consul General at the Korean Embassy in Japan (1977)
- Public Information Officer at the National Assembly
- Senior Public Relations Officer at the Presidential Secretariat
- 4th Minister of Environment (1997)
- Four-term National Assembly member
Continuing Public Engagement
Currently, Yoon maintains active roles in public policy as director of the Yoon Yeo-jun Political Research Institute and serves as an honorary chairman at Global Cyber University. His election follows previous leadership positions including supporting presidential transition teams during South Korea’s political reforms.
The Sarang Volunteer Association, established in 1987, operates numerous community welfare programs across South Korea focusing on elderly care, youth mentoring, and disability support services.
