Democratic Party floor leader Jo Sung-rae pledges to secure victory in all upcoming June 3 by-elections, targeting People Power Party (PPP) leadership under President Yoon Suk-yeol’s influence. He insists that even disbanding the party would not suffice, demanding the removal of pro-Yoon faction members known as ‘Yoon Kids’.
Persistent Public Resentment Despite Leadership Changes
Jo highlights that public dissatisfaction lingers from the PPP’s top leadership election and related decisions. Recent polls, including Gallup surveys, show the party’s approval rating remains below 30%, reflecting unresolved grievances from the December 3 incident. Officials confirm that citizens’ livelihoods have not improved post-power shift.
Addressing the National Assembly on February 22 during a ‘By-Election D-100 Milestone Event,’ Jo stated, “The current administration overflows with public concerns, yet this election offers a clear political verdict.”
Targeting Key PPP Strongholds
Jo pinpointed eight regions under heavy PPP influence—Incheon, Daejeon, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Sejong, Gangwon, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan—where leading candidates dominate. He criticized them as “true ‘Yoon Kids’ lacking substance, whom the public must expel alongside Yoon’s aides.”
Urging Seoul and Busan chapter leaders to act decisively, Jo remarked, “These are the individuals Yoon’s leadership favors, but voters’ sentiments over four years of observation and criticism demand judgment.” He added, “This by-election evaluates leaders ignoring national priorities with thorough resolve.”
AI-Driven Election Predictions
The Democratic Party has deployed an AI prediction model assessing election-related news, YouTube content, and online communities. In swing regions like Busan-Gyeongnam, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Gangwon—classified as ‘common denominator’ areas—projections indicate strong wins as of April 20.
Governance-heavy zones such as Chungnam-Daejeon, Jeonnam-Gwangju, and Daegu-Gyeongbuk anticipate adjusted outcomes through unified strategies.
Jo emphasized upcoming joint events for metropolitan leaders on February 23-24, noting, “These reveal the bone-deep political nature self-evidently.” He warned, “Large districts, city-province party chairs, and regional leaders exercising selfish power will face downfall through public accountability.”
