BTS unveiled their highly anticipated full-group album ‘ARIRANG’ on March 20, marking their first release in three years and nine months since ‘Proof’ in June 2022. The septet expressed deep gratitude to their devoted fans, known as ARMY, during a special showcase via Big Hit Music.
Emotional Reunion and Fan Appreciation
The members reflected on the long hiatus, noting how ARMY’s unwavering support fueled their return. ‘We’ve come back renewed because of the anticipation from fans around the world,’ one member shared. They emphasized that despite concerns over the lengthy gap, the bond with supporters remains unbreakable.
RM stated, ‘Even in a world full of one-hit wonders, we can do things that excite people just by being ourselves. That’s the greatest pride and happiness.’ Jimin added, ‘I wanted to go out with restraint, but this determination exists. There are painful moments in the process, but pushing forward with that mindset is what we’ve expressed.’
Incorporating Korean Identity
The album prominently features Korean elements, showcasing national pride. Members highlighted how tracks like the title song ‘SWIM’ capture Korea’s vibrant culture and spirit. Suga remarked, ‘The most worrying thing turned out to be something precious. Even in everyday messages, it fits perfectly into “worry.”‘
Jungkook noted, ‘Through each member’s time and challenges, the best band songs emerged.’ J-Hope shared, ‘Even on days not fully prepared, coming back with restraint makes it feel cozy and welcoming.’
They discussed infusing Korean lyrics throughout, aiming to present the nation’s dynamic energy globally. V explained, ‘In music and performance, conveying worry’s essence and matching it with band perspectives rediscovered that all members are Korean.’
LA Listening Session Highlights
During a Los Angeles listening event, members performed unreservedly, even on tracks not fully polished. They engaged fans intimately, sharing personal insights. RM reflected, ‘The title track is what we’ve pondered most and accomplished. Pulling it off for the first time felt average, but immersing in it brought fresh, cool energy.’
The session drew massive crowds, with members conveying genuine emotions. They expect ‘SWIM’ to resonate widely, blending fun elements like ‘Haru Haru, Cheongbeong Cheongbeong’ and hopes.
‘BTS 2.0’ and Global Tour Tease
Dubbed ‘BTS 2.0,’ the project promises fresh direction. Suga called it ‘a new self,’ J-Hope ‘an artist’s single generation,’ V ‘a place becoming a fandom,’ and Jungkook ‘a new direction.’ RM affirmed, ‘It’s precious, but defining it precisely is tough. Still, that pride and value persist.’
Further promotions include a Gwanghwamun fan event on March 21 and international appearances, signaling a robust world tour rollout. The group assured ARMY, ‘Fans waiting in distant places truly feel our sincerity. No matter what, we’ll keep prioritizing you.’
