A 23-year-old man faces a 10-month prison term, suspended for two years, after a court convicted him of sexually assaulting multiple women through luring and group activities in Gangwon Province.
Details of the Crimes
The defendant, who worked at a factory in Gangwon Province during July and August 2024, targeted four women, including victim B. He lured them with drinks and engaged in group sexual acts while issuing kidnapping threats. Surveillance footage captured him entering B’s workplace under the pretense of a delivery, where he assaulted her younger sister.
Investigators also linked him to assaults on three additional women, using lighter fluid on their faces to coerce compliance.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Chuncheon District Court, Wonju Branch, imposed the sentence on April 5 for charges including direct injury, threats, and coercive acts. The ruling confirmed the 10-month straight term with a two-year suspension.
During interrogation, the defendant insisted, “No rape occurred with B; it was consensual, not forced.” However, the court noted the victim’s resulting post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual dysfunction, and the defendant’s extensive criminal record as aggravating factors.
Officials emphasized that such violations undermine public order and morals, outweighing any claims of good workplace conduct.
