A sport utility vehicle (SUV) carrying a family veered off course and slammed into a central median in Busan’s Gijang-gu district, resulting in one fatality and one person in serious condition.
Incident Details
The accident occurred around 7:19 p.m. on March 24 on a major road in Jukseong-ri, Gijang-eup. Authorities received a distress signal from the scene, where a Hyundai SUV had plunged into the median during a U-turn maneuver.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
The driver, a 45-year-old woman identified as Eomoni, sustained critical injuries and remains unconscious. Her 14-year-old daughter suffered severe trauma and is receiving urgent medical attention. The 16-year-old son was ejected from the vehicle into shallow water nearby and escaped with minor injuries.
Rescue teams extracted the victims from the wreckage inside the vehicle. No oil spills or other hazards were reported at the site.
Investigation Underway
Police classify the crash as a single-vehicle incident and suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel during the turn. Further inquiries continue to determine the exact cause.
