Authorities launched raids on executives at Rainbo Robotics, a prominent South Korean humanoid robot developer, amid allegations of embezzling funds through the misuse of confidential US military information.
Intensive Search and Seizure Operations
The Serious Economic Crimes Investigation Division at Seoul’s Southern District Prosecutors’ Office conducted search and seizure operations on March 18 at the company’s headquarters and other key locations. Officials targeted high-ranking personnel suspected of fraudulent activities.
Financial regulators previously questioned 16 individuals, including the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the firm’s IMO division and a branch manager, on charges of exploiting internal US military data during inspections.
Alleged Subsidy Inflation Scheme
Investigators claim Samsung executives, while delivering local support to Rainbo Robotics from 2022 to 2024, accessed proprietary US military details to boost subsidies by 300 million to 400 million won. This misconduct allegedly occurred as the executives managed regional operations for the robot firm.
Rainbo Robotics specializes in advanced humanoid robots like “Hyubo” and integrated into Samsung’s private affiliate network in December 2024.
