Samsung Lions Welcome New Foreign Pitcher
Samsung Lions bolster their rotation by signing right-handed pitcher Jack O’Erklin, 26, as their latest foreign talent. The team introduced him during a session at SSG Landers Field, highlighting his potential as their top power arm for the season.
O’Erklin impressed observers with his commanding presence on the mound. Standing at 1.96 meters, he delivers an average fastball velocity of 148 km/h, peaking at 152 km/h. His arsenal includes a sharp slider, changeup, curveball, and slurve, making him a versatile threat against hitters.
Manager Park Jin-man Praises New Arm
Manager Park Jin-man expressed enthusiasm after his first look at O’Erklin. “Even at first glance, his size stands out, and his stuff looks sharp,” Park stated. “He’s smooth in the zone and hits spots well.”
Park analyzed O’Erklin’s fit: “He boosted Korea’s game in the 2026 WBC against Japan. His size and angle make for dominant strikes. Even in international play, he showed elite command.” Park emphasized that O’Erklin’s stuff shines in ABS conditions, positioning him as a key asset.
High-Stakes Contract and Debut Plans
The deal includes a $50,000 bonus per win, incentivizing strong performances. O’Erklin eyes his KBO debut on March 20 against Changwon NC Dinos, slated for two innings and around 40 pitches.
Park added, “In spring training rotations, we don’t need a full-time ace yet. But O’Erklin brings the body and game to earn a spot. He’s already adapting well.”
Background and Expectations
O’Erklin represented the USA in the recent WBC, gaining international exposure. Samsung targeted him for his raw power and command, filling a critical rotation gap. Despite no minor league seasoning, his major league potential excites the staff.
“First time facing him, but his newborn-like frame and mound presence are impressive,” Park noted. The signing aims to minimize risk while maximizing upside in high-leverage situations.
