Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s delegation wraps up its 3-night, 4-day state visit to Singapore and the Philippines, securing business deals with local partners before returning home on the 4th.
Business Matching and Key Engagements
The delegation visited the Hero Market, a prominent local enterprise in the Philippines, to facilitate business matchmaking. Officials connected with emerging companies and next-generation leaders, promoting active involvement in new market opportunities.
Korean firms took center stage at business forums, negotiating collaborations and demonstrating expertise during luncheons and discussions with government ministers.
Expanded Cooperation in Strategic Sectors
At the Korea-Philippines business forum, participants explored growth in shipbuilding, nuclear power, defense, infrastructure, and trade. Analysis highlights potential for deeper partnerships, including memorandums of understanding (MOUs).
Agreements advanced in prior collaboration areas, with Korean companies signing MOUs for nuclear power and mineral resources during plenary sessions.
Singapore Deals Accelerate Market Entry
The visit paves the way for Korean shipbuilding and defense companies to expand into regional markets. Korea and Singapore exchanged MOUs on small modular reactor (SMR) joint development, talent nurturing, and information-sharing initiatives.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met the delegation at last November’s APEC summit in Peru. He stated, “We signed a free trade agreement and maintain numerous cooperations in shipbuilding and security sectors,” signaling strong interest in Korean defense capabilities.
