South Korea’s People Power Party (PPP) spokesperson Jang Dong-hyuk called for closer examination of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung’s real estate holdings following recent developments on presidential properties.
Response to Recent SNS Post
Officials from the PPP highlighted that Jang’s earlier comment—if the president sells properties, he would follow suit—has now materialized. On February 27, Democratic Party spokesperson Jeong Cheong-rae shared on social media: “The president found a house, signaling that real estate speculators should not even dream.” He added, “Now it is PPP spokesperson Jang Dong-hyuk’s turn to respond. Courage is expected.”
Background on Jang’s Statements
Jang made direct remarks during a visit to Jeju, echoing the sentiment that presidential property actions would prompt his own. These were initially rhetorical but have gained new relevance. Earlier on January 6, Jang addressed a citizen’s view emphasizing house politics, placing additional pressure on the presidential side to act.
PPP Floor Representative’s Critique
PPP floor representative Kim Hyun-jung remarked that Jang referenced his six major properties, stating, “Even looking at just six fills the heart with anxiety.” She emphasized, “Intensifying pressure on the real estate sector through widespread outreach turns homes into mere commodities.”
Kim further noted, “The president’s drive to normalize the housing market shines clearer than words. Commitments to the ‘fair housing law’ with citizens have been upheld, rendering prior excuses obsolete.”
