A chicken restaurant in Incheon’s Namdong-gu district, linked to former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s hometown and featuring a ‘Yoon family favorite’ sign, now confronts an 80 million won enforcement penalty for an unauthorized full-color LED display.
Recent Inspection Uncovers Violation
District authorities conducted an on-site review on February 23, confirming the illegal electronic signboard installation at the restaurant’s entrance. Officials issued a formal notice to the owner, demanding immediate removal of the non-compliant LED screen.
Prior issues with the property remain unresolved, despite repeated directives. The restaurant has until early next month—specifically March 6—to rectify the installation. Failure to comply will trigger the full projected fine.
Strict Outdoor Advertising Rules Breached
Regulations mandate that buildings with a total floor area over 5,000 square meters limit first-floor entrance-side electronic displays to static screens of 4 square meters or less. This venue exceeds those limits, prompting the enforcement action.
History of Controversial Displays
Last year, on April 4, shortly after the Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, the restaurant flashed a message on its LED screen: “The respondent Yoon Suk-yeol is impeached. Thank you for the public’s opinion.”
The post quickly spread across online communities, drawing widespread attention. Seoul officials ordered screen removal, but the restaurant disregarded the directive, incurring prior penalties.
More recently, the owner displayed a memorial message for the Sewol ferry disaster victims on the same screen. This led to a customer assault, after which the owner filed a police report.
