Police in Gangwon Province executed a dramatic takedown on Noh Yeong-dae, 46, immediately after his release from prison following a 13-year term for aggravated sexual assaults. Authorities tracked and apprehended him during a joint operation, and he now faces detention at Sangdong Detention Center in Chuncheon.
Immediate Post-Release Capture
Investigators from Gangwon police command monitored Noh closely after his longest prison stint ended. As he exited the facility, officers swiftly tackled him to prevent escape. Prison officials provide released inmates with living support, including job placement and employment assistance, but Noh’s history prompted heightened surveillance.
Record-Breaking Evasion in Seoul
Police records show Noh evaded capture for a maximum of two years in the Seoul area—the longest wanted period for such cases. Initially imprisoned for six months, his sentence extended three times within another six months due to ongoing offenses. While most sexual assault arrests occur internally at detention centers, Noh’s external flight led to reinforced pursuit tactics.
Prior Crimes and Escape
In December 2012, Noh broke into an apartment in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, where he sexually assaulted two sisters in their 20s. He then entered a neighboring home and stole a gold bracelet. During questioning at the station, he removed his handcuffs and fled, only to be recaptured five days later.
While in custody, Noh pawned a ring stolen from his victims. He assaulted an investigator, dragged the officer into a room, broke two sets of handcuffs, and escaped again. He even sought refuge near a local elementary school.
Extensive Criminal History
Noh accumulated a lengthy record, including 13 years of probation, 60 hours of community service, and a 10-year driver’s license suspension for drunk driving. His personal details, including name, ID, fingerprints, urine tests, residence, and spouse information, remain registered in the national sex offender database.
