MILAN, Jan 31 – Brad Jacobs, Canada’s Olympic curling gold medalist from the 2014 Sochi Games, embraces extreme measures to peak for competition. The 40-year-old athlete recently completed a grueling 110-hour fast ahead of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, starting next week in Italy.
Intense Pre-Olympic Routine
Jacobs shared his experience on social media, highlighting the challenges and benefits of his preparation. “110-hour fast completed and it was a grind,” he posted. During the fast, he maintained a rigorous schedule that included four gym workouts, four sauna sessions, two steam sessions, and four on-ice practices involving 180 stones. “Feeling very optimal heading into the Olympics,” Jacobs added. “Boy, do I ever feel lean and strong. The goal was to have a long fast before a big event. This is the longest one I have done.”
Canada’s Curling Legacy
The Canadian men’s curling team has a strong history, securing gold in three of the last five Olympic editions. Their most recent victory came in 2014, and Jacobs aims to help reclaim the top spot in Milan.
Fasting gains traction among elite athletes seeking performance enhancements, as well as among everyday individuals pursuing reported health advantages like improved recovery and metabolic efficiency.
