U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned Monday that Korea’s Hanwha will work with the U.S. Navy for the development of latest frigate warships as he introduced plans to construct a brand new “Trump-class” of battleships.
The remarks come as Korea has sought to deepen shipbuilding cooperation with the US by means of its key shipbuilders, together with Hanwha Ocean.
“Final week, the Navy introduced a model new class of frigate and they are going to be working with Korean firm Hanwha,” Trump mentioned in a press convention at Mar-a-Lago.
On Friday, the U.S. Navy introduced a plan to introduce the brand new class of fight ships designed to be smaller and extra agile to enrich bigger, multi-mission warships.
Trump described Hanwha as a “good firm,” noting its latest choice to put money into Philadelphia naval shipyard, apparently referring to the corporate’s Philly Shipyard.
In August, Hanwha Group introduced it will make investments $5 billion into the shipyard as a part of Korea’s $150 billion dedication for U.S. shipbuilding cooperation below a broader commerce settlement with the Trump administration.
Throughout the press convention, Trump introduced the U.S. Navy will construct two new highly effective battleships as a part of an envisioned “Golden Fleet.”
