MOSCOW — Moscow has made a proposal to Paris concerning jailed French researcher Laurent Vinatier, who’s going through espionage costs that would see him sentenced to twenty years in a Russian jail, the Kremlin stated on Thursday.
The shock public overture comes as each Russia and France have expressed curiosity in attainable talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron.
Vinatier, who works for a Swiss battle mediation NGO and was jailed in June 2024, is serving a three-year sentence for failing to register as a “international agent” however faces recent allegations of spying.
“There have been acceptable contacts between our facet and the French. Certainly, a proposal was made to the French concerning Vinatier,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised reporters, together with AFP.
Peskov didn’t present particulars.
