Amid allegations that he obtained bribes from the Unification Church, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Chun Jae-soo introduced his resignation on Thursday and vowed to show his innocence.
“I can’t permit the administration to be undermined by false claims. I’ll step down from my ministerial place to verify [the allegations] are confirmed to be clear falsehoods,” Chun informed reporters at Incheon Worldwide Airport upon getting back from a visit to the US.
“I consider it is just proper for me to step down from my ministerial put up on the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries,” he mentioned.
With regard to the accusations made towards him, Chun acknowledged, “I can let you know firmly and clearly that these allegations are groundless. I’ll talk about the type of the investigation in an upcoming press convention.”
When requested by reporters whether or not giving up his ministerial place could possibly be seen as an act of contrition, Chun replied, “Completely not. It will be troublesome for the ministry if there have been issues to be investigated whereas I held the ministerial put up. That is an expression of my will to supply a extra accountable and dignified response.”
